THE SECRET SYRIA MEETING IN VIENNA

Representatives of the various camps in Syria spoke about reconciliation in the Kreisky Villa.

Since 2016, a diverse group has been meeting to discuss the future of Syria in a discreet setting: These are exponents of Syrian civil society, judges, leaders of influential tribes and families, religious scholars, exiled activists, former politicians and military officers, representatives of various ethnic groups. Among them are people who have friends and family members who may have been killed by family members of other participants; people who, according to the logic of war, should actually be enemies. And yet they talk together about peaceful coexistence. The location of their secret meetings is always changing: once they met near Madrid, once in Berlin, once in Paris - and at the beginning of September in Vienna at the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue.
