The signs of the times are pointing to a storm
Maja Haderlap and Peter Turrini on the 100th birthday of the Republic of Austria
Official Austria commemorated the 100th birthday of the Republic with a state ceremony at the Vienna State Opera on 12 November 2018. The writer Maja Haderlap, who wrote the bestseller "Angel of Oblivion", gave a courageous, remarkable and brilliant speech.
The Carinthian Slovenian greeted those present in two languages, leaving out only Strache. She did not hide the fact that the invitation to give this speech had thrown her into a "relentless cycle of doubt".
On 30 October 2018, the SPÖ parliamentary group Peter Turrini Turrini was invited to speak at his festive event to mark the anniversary of the Second Republic. Turrini, one of Austria's greatest writers. In a speech in parliament, he called for the „limits of courage“ to be extended in politically difficult times, in which the class struggle is being waged „from top to bottom“ - and to stand up for democracy and against injustice.
