CURRENT WARS IN THE MIDDLE EAST: AN INSIDE VIEW

Riad al Khouri
Jordanian Economist
In addition to simmering conflict involving Israel, widening fighting has since 2010 engulfed much of the Arab World east of Suez, and prospects for the coming year are grim. In this talk, Jordanian economist and strategic expert Riad al Khouri analyzes violence in the region, the different forces at work, and the way things may develop over the next twelve months. Taking into account both global and local factors, he will focus on regional actors in the present crises, including the part played by Jordan.
Based in Amman Riad al Khouri has traveled to and worked extensively in most countries of the region, and also knows its non-Arab component well. As an independent observer in and from the Middle East, he is thus highly qualified to shed light on an increasingly complex situation that could have major ramifications in Europe and elsewhere.
