Amir Khnifess, Head of the Center for Druze Studies and an expert in Middle East Politics.
Moderation: Gudrun Harrer, Senior Editor, Der Standard; Lecturer on Modern History and Politics of the Middle East, University of Vienna and Diplomatic Academy of Vienna
Amir Khnifess will discuss the Israeli Parliament’s (the Knesset) decision of legislating the controversial law: Israel-The Nation-State of the Jewish People, last August. His talk will elaborate on the major reasons that encouraged Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of bringing the law and the reasons behind the support of this law received from the right-wing political parties. When discussing the division that this law caused within the Israeli society between supporters and opponents, special weight should be put on its implications on the Non-Jewish minorities’ status and their future in the state.
