JEWS IN EUROPE TODAY: POPULISTS, ETHNO-NATIONALISTS OR STILL PLURALISTS?

Lecture: Diana Pinto
JEWS IN EUROPE TODAY:
POPULISTS, ETHNO-NATIONALISTS OR STILL PLURALISTS?
followed by a talk with Felicitas Heimann-Jelinek
The coupling of Jews and Europe has always been more problematic than assumed, for 'Europe' for most of the 20th century was a highly ambiguous reference. It has become even more so in the last fifty years after Israel's 1967 Six Day War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rise of a new Muslim-derived antisemitism, terrorism and the lure of illiberal democracy. Who are the last Jews of Europe and what challenges do they face today?
Diana Pinto is an Italian-French historian and writer living in Paris. She has lectured widely on transatlantic issues and on Jewish life in contemporary Europe. Her articles have been published across Europe and the US. She is a founding member of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
