The Bruno Kreisky Forum for international Dialogue together with Amnesty International, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Polyfilm and Filmcasino would like to invite you to a filmscreening and an afterward discussion on the situation of international humanitarian aid in times of conflict and war.
“The Voice of Hind Rajab” follows an emergency call received by the Red Crescent. 6-year old Hind Rajab is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, pleading for rescue. The Red Crescent volunteers try everything in order to get an ambulance through to her.
While the story is individual and intimate, its significance extends far beyond a single incident. It exposes the structural realities, constraints, and moral stakes of providing humanitarian aid in active war zones. In recent years, armed conflicts around the world have exposed growing gaps between the principles of international humanitarian law and the realities on the ground. From blocked medical evacuations to the rising targeting of rescue teams, the protections once considered foundational are increasingly strained. Anchored by cases such as the widely reported emergency call of Hind Rajab in Gaza, it has become vividly clear how individual tragedies reflect systemic issues facing humanitarian aid workers across today’s conflicts.
