Asma Khalifa will talk about the journey of women in Libya in the past decade attempting to gain or keep their rights in the context of gendered armed conflicts.  Which challenges did Libyan women face and how did they respond to them? There are multitudes of realities that are in conflict with each other.

Asma Khalifa, is a Libyan women's rights and peace activist. Her work has spanned across numerous countries including Libya, Yemen and Syria. She won the Luxembourg Peace Prize in 2016 and was named as one of the 100 most influential young Africans of 2017 by the Africa Youth Awards. She is a Research Fellow / Doctoral Student at the GIGA Institute of Middle East Studies and at the GIGA Doctoral Programme
