Georg Lennkh

Dr Georg Lennkh, born in Graz, studied law and political science in Graz, Bologna and the USA. He worked for the Foreign Ministry from 1965. As chief of staff to Bruno Kreisky, he was actively involved in the preparation of the first worldwide North-South Summit in Cancun, Mexico, in 1981. Subsequently, until 1993, he represented Austria at the OECD. From 1993 to 2004, he was head of the Department for Development and Eastern Cooperation at the Foreign Ministry, significantly shaping Austria's development cooperation.
Georg Lennkh has also served in numerous missions in Africa, including as Austrian Special Envoy for Africa (2005-2010) and as EU Special Representative in Chad (2006-2010). At the Bruno Kreisky Forum, he curated the thematic focus "AFRICA: Dimensions of a Continent" for many years. He was a member of the board of the Bruno Kreisky Forum for decades.
Dr Georg Lennkh died in an accident on 1 September 2025.
