Middle East after 10 YEARS OF ARAB SPRING, 20 YEARS OF 9/11

THE MIDDLE EAST TEN YEARS AFTER THE ARAB SPRING, 20 YEARS AFTER SEPTEMBER 11:
DYNAMICS AND PROCESSES OF POLITICAL, SOCIAL AND RELIGIOUS CHANGE
The terrorist attacks of 11 September and the Arab Spring of 2011/2 marked two high points in a process of upheaval that significantly changed the political maps, social worlds and religious orders in the Middle East. New geopolitical concepts of order emerged, the social worlds changed above all through the emancipation process of women and young people, and far-reaching processes of secularisation competed with changes in the religious and confessional landscapes. The imposition of the Taliban and their 2nd Emirate in Afghanistan will be used as an opportunity for a historical and systematic review of the transformations that have profoundly changed and continue to change the familiar face of the Middle East.
