Eva Nowotny

Ambassador Dr Eva Nowotny was awarded her doctorate on 1 April 1968 and, after more than four years as a university assistant, was appointed to the Diplomatic Service in March 1973. After initial assignments abroad at the Austrian Cultural Institute in Cairo and at the Austrian Mission to the United Nations in New York, Dr Nowotny was appointed Foreign Policy Advisor in the Office of the Federal Chancellor in 1983, a position she held until November 1992.
Dr Nowotny was Austrian Ambassador to France from 1992 to 1997 and to Great Britain from 1997 to 1999.
In December 1999, she took over as Head of the Integration and Economic Policy Section of the Foreign Ministry and remained in this position until September 2003.
From September 2003 to autumn 2008, Dr Nowotny was the Austrian Ambassador to the United States of America, to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and to the Organisation of American States (OAS).
In February 2009, Ambassador Nowotny was appointed President of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO by the Federal Minister for Education and the Arts, a position she held until February 2018.
From 2013 to 2023, she was Chair of the University Council of the University of Vienna.
Dr Eva Nowotny curated the thematic focus "Transatlantic Relations" at the Bruno Kreisky Forum. She has held the position of Vice President on the Board of Directors for many years.
