Gudrun Harrer

Born 1959 in Schwanenstadt, Middle East expert, author.

Dr. Gudrun Harrer lectures on Modern History and Middle Eastern Politics at the University of Vienna and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. Until the end of 2025, she was the chief editor of the daily newspaper „Der Standard“. During Austria's EU presidency in 2006, she served as Special Envoy to Iraq and Chargé d'Affaires of the Austrian Embassy in Baghdad. In 2014, she received the „Bruno Kreisky Prize for Political Book“ for her overall journalistic work.
